Have you been pondering the idea of a camping trip? Whether for a week or a day, planning must be done. The following advice can make any camping trip more relaxing and fun.

Make sure to find your shelter before it gets dark. Once it grows black in the woods, you can have a hard time setting up your tent, preparing food, and getting adequate firewood. This is particularly true for those city-dwellers that are not used to pitch-black darkness. Do not get yourself into this situation, and find your shelter during daylight hours.

You might think that you can find all of the wood that you need to keep the fire going, but there is a good chance that the wood will be wet. To prevent this problem, bring along a few pieces of your own wood. Make sure to keep that wood dry in your car or another secure location.

Take a first-aid class, especially if children are camping with you. In an emergency, your first aid training could be the difference between life and death. Also remember to research other dangers near your camping location. Be aware of the potential for poisonous snakes, wild animals and other possible wildlife dangers.

The difference between a fun camping trip and a dangerous one? Preparation. Try to be as prepared as possible when you go out camping; don’t just take off on a whim. If you go someplace new, research wildlife and research the weather and geography.

You can go swimming at the same time that you camp! While you are camping in the great outdoors, it can be very easy to miss taking your daily shower. Swimming can help you feel a little cleaner.

Bring a bandanna or a large handkerchief with you when you go camping. They can serve many purposes, like potholder, blotter, hand towel or carrying bag. There are various uses for this fabric piece, so be sure to carry one on your trip.

Dryer lint makes surprisingly good kindling for starting campfires. In order to have enough lint to start a fire, begin collecting it a month prior to your trip. Place the lint you normally throw in the trash in a plastic bag to take with you. Using this for your kindling will save you time looking for it, and it will work even better than any kindling that you do find.

Try to schedule activities for your children such as board games or card games. Far from civilization, kids tend to get bored. Children may not be familiar with activities like pitching a tent or fishing. Teach them the basics of these activities before leaving for your trip, especially if they don’t have lots of outdoor experience.

Now you should be better equipped to take a camping trip that goes well. You might have realized that you need the same things whether you camp out for a night or a week. Start planning now in order to be ready for your upcoming camping trip.
